Conformation Analysis of Biopharmaceutical Protein Drugs

Proteins become increasingly important as active drugs in pharmaceuticals. Particularly therapeutic antibodies are used for the treatment of diseases that have been incurable so far. During development of such biopharmaceuticals the protein's properties have to be characterized. The formulation needs to be optimized to prevent protein denaturation processes. Finally, stability tests are performed to define allowed transport and storage conditions for the final product. Bruker's CONFOCHECK system allows a quick insight into the protein's overall secondary structure composition. Conformational changes of the protein that may be induced by any denaturation process can be observed. Differently than with other analytical methods the CONFOCHECK allows the analysis of the protein using the real-life sample, widely independent from the used formulation components and the protein concentration. The IR-technique even provides insight into the protein structure in solid lyophilizates. Find more information about infrared spectroscopic protein analysis in our brochure
